Today I am sharing with you 10 Recipe Inspirations for Your Easter Table. Whether you celebrate Western Easter this coming Sunday, or, Orthodox Easter five weeks from now, I hope you will find some inspiration with these recipes that I have rounded up from my site for today’s post.
In my family we always celebrate Easter twice as, more often than not, Orthodox Easter does not coincide with Western Easter. Orthodox Easter can fall one to five weeks after its celebration by Western Christians, but occasionally the two coincide.
In this list you will find some of the recipes we often enjoy in our Easter table: favorite lamb recipes, easy side dishes and fresh salads, our beloved Easter bread and, of course, a few delicious desserts. I am pretty confident that you will like some of the ideas that you might include in this year’s list of recipes of your Easter! Just click on the heading for each inspiration to take you to the recipe on my site!
10 Recipe Inspirations for your Easter Table 🐣
Traditional Greek Roast Lamb with Potatoes
In many Mediterranean countries, roasted lamb is the meat of choice for Easter. Lamb dishes, in their many variations, are always present on the Greek Easter table. This recipe for traditional roasted lamb and potatoes is perfect for those cooking lamb for the first time. The “low and slow” roasting method is foolproof. While it will take some time to cook in the oven, it is well worth it!
Here are the ingredients you will need for this recipe (pictured above):
GREEK LAMB FRICASSÉE
Lamb fricassée (αρνάκι φρικασέ) with avgolemono is a Greek-style lamb braised with lots of greens and finished with the traditional egg-lemon (avgolemono) sauce. The dish utilizes greens that are growing at this time of the year and it is surprisingly light and extremely flavorful. Tender pieces of leg of lamb are braised slowly with sweet leeks, mild spring onions, and aromatic fresh dill before the dish is finished off with the tangy and creamy avgolemono sauce.
CREAMY SCALLOPED PARMESAN POTATOES
Potatoes and roast lamb go so well together. These creamy scalloped potatoes are a real crowd pleaser. They can be assembled ahead of time, baked ahead of time, then reheated before serving.
SKILLET ROASTED POTATOES
These easy skillet potatoes with lemon and thyme is another great side dish for your Easter dinner table, especially if you are a potato lover! They are wonderful served with lamb, or any other protein for that matter, and always disappear fast!
Greek lettuce salad
This classic Greek lettuce salad (maroulosalata) is one of the most popular salads in Greece along with the better-known Greek peasant salad (horiatiki salata). This flavorful salad is enjoyed in Greece throughout the year, especially during those months that tomatoes are not in season. It is made with thinly sliced lettuce, chopped green onions, snipped fresh dill, and some crumbled Feta cheese. Everything is tossed in a bright lemon vinaigrette just before serving .
Green Beans topped with Gremolata
This is such a flavorful side dish! Green beans are cooked until tender and then tossed with a classic herb condiment–the gremolata–a combination of lemon zest, fresh parsley and garlic. The addition of freshly grated Parmesan cheese and toasted pine nuts gives this dish an even greater depth of flavor.
GREEK EASTER BREAD (TSOUREKI)
This Greek Easter bread, or tsoureki, is a brioche-type yeast bread made with eggs, milk, and butter. We always make it a few days before Greek Orthodox Easter, as it is traditionally eaten after returning home from midnight services on Easter morning, breaking the Lenten and Easter fasts. This bread is always a must for my family’s Easter table!
ORANGE CUSTARD RUFFLED FILO PIE
Layers of golden, crispy, “ruffled” sheets of buttered filo pastry, baked in a delicious orange custard then drizzled with an orange simple syrup while it is still hot and just out of the oven. This simple dessert is truly Heaven on a plate!
Mini Filo Tartlets with Lemon Curd and Berries
These luscious sweet and tart mini filo tartlets with lemon curd and fresh berries are the perfect dessert for any springtime gathering and celebration. They are very easy to assemble and only require a couple of minutes of your time. These little tarts are small, portable, and the perfect size for a dessert after a big meal!
RICOTTA AND CHOCOLATE CRUMB CAKE
This cake is a classic Italian recipe, which I learned during the time that we lived in Italy. Creamy ricotta cheese blends with rich chunks of chocolate for an absolutely moist and delicious cake. It is an example of a very flavorful, simple-not-fancy treat; We make this often to have not only as a dessert but also, with coffee on Easter morning!
