Easter Sunday–both Western and Orthodox–is just around the corner and many of us are thinking about which dishes to prepare for the Easter table. With that in mind I have put together a few of my favorite recipes, hoping that my suggestions might provide some inspiration and ideas for the dishes you choose to serve for your celebration this year!
Eastertime is also a time to celebrate the arrival of Spring. Besides the traditional lamb or baked ham, which are the centerpieces of most dinners, we have the opportunity to choose from many great options for seasonal vegetables, now that so much fresh produce is available at the market. A good selection of salads and side dishes are always a great idea to lighten up the Easter meal, but also to accommodate those with special diets.
More often than not, Orthodox Easter does not coincide with Western Easter. This year, they fall one week apart. As always, my family will celebrate Easter twice; each time enjoying a few or our favorite dishes from both traditions. We very much looking forward to making the Greek Easter cookies, dying the eggs naturally and baking the traditional Greek sweet bread called tsoureki. I hope you will find something interesting from the Easter dishes I have compiled below and maybe you will even decide to make one for your Easter table!
Happy Easter to everyone who is celebrating Easter this Sunday and Kalo Pascha to all my Greek friends!
