It is hard to believe that July is already here and that half of the year is now behind us! In just a couple of days, those of us here in the U.S. will celebrate Independence Day with a backyard cookout, or, maybe a small gathering indoors with family and friends.
With that in mind, I am sharing ten recipes for your 4th of July celebration. These are some of my favorite–mostly Mediterranean–summer recipes that my family eagerly looks forward to every year, as they have become part of our regular summer meal rotation.
4th of July menu with a Mediterranean twist
An easy tomato tart, delicious zucchini and corn fritters, and a colorful meze platter make great choices for appetizers. For the main course, a traditional Greek souvlaki spread and flavorful grilled lamb patties will offer a Mediterranean twist to your traditional grilling fare of hamburgers and hot dogs. To go with those, a lighter version of coleslaw and my Greek panzanella salad are wonderful pairings. To finish your meal, a fantastic cherry galette and (my family’s favorite) peach cobbler will round up nicely your menu!
Seasonal bounty
Most of these recipes are simple; a few require a little planning, but all have easy steps and are straight-forward. The bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables now available everywhere makes the menu planning easy. Making use of that seasonal bounty–-or the outdoor grill–-is at the core of these 10 recipes.
I hope you find something from this list that sounds interesting to you and that you might want to try for this 4th of July!
