I was born and raised in Greece in an environment where fresh, seasonal food plays a central role in everyday life. I consider myself privileged to have had the opportunity to attend cooking school in Italy where regional Italian cuisine was introduced, discussed, prepared, and enjoyed in its many rich and subtle variations.
When my family moved to the United States 12 years ago, I completed a culinary course at L’Academie de Cuisine, with concentration on traditional French cuisine and classic cooking techniques. I also became a member of the American Personal and Private Chef Association (APPCA).
Soon after that, I joined the talented team of chef instructors at Culinaria Cooking School in Vienna, Northern Virginia where I focus on Mediterranean cooking and, in particular, regional Italian and Greek cuisine. When I’m not at the school, I teach private cooking classes, cater small events, work as a private chef and do freelance content creation (recipes and photography) for some of my favorite food brands.
About Marilena’s Kitchen:
I started this blog in January 2015 as a way to record my culinary adventures for my friends and students at the cooking school. My goal was to create a space where everyone could access the simple and foolproof recipes I cook for my family. As Marilena’s Kitchen has grown to a small online community, I have been able to share my food and photographs with people from all over the world and I am so excited about that!
Thank you for stopping by and I hope you stay a while! If you have any questions or suggestions, don’t hesitate to contact me. I would love to hear from you!
