May is the month of family gatherings and celebrations with Mother’s Day, College graduations and Memorial Day, to just name a few for those of us here in the United States. If you are looking for some inspiration for Sweet Treats for All of Your May Celebrations, I put together a roundup of delicious and generally easy recipes you might want to make again, or, try out for the first time!
I find that simple spring desserts and fresh berries go hand-in-hand. So, you will notice that several of these recipes include fresh fruits along with filo, one of my favorite ingredients to work with because it is virtually fail proof and so forgiving for even the amateur baker!
I hope you will find something you like in this round up which you can save to use this month, either as a special gift, or, something unexpected to bring to a gathering or potluck. Do not let the looks of these images fool you; there is truly nothing complicated or difficult about putting together any of these recipes!
Sweet Treats for All of Your May Celebrations
Orange Custard Ruffled Filo Pie
This dessert has layers of golden, crispy, “ruffled” sheets of buttered filo pastry, which are baked in a delicious orange custard, and drizzled with an orange simple syrup while it is still hot and just out of the oven. I shared this recipe for Mother’s Day two years ago and remains a popular recipe on this blog.
Easy Berry Sherbet in Crispy Filo Cups
This is a refreshing recipe, perfect for easy entertaining that takes minutes to assemble. You can also customize this sherbet to include your favorite frozen fruit and a variety of other toppings. Creamy, velvety, only slightly sweet, this fruit dessert is a real winner!
Danish Mini Pastries Topped with Fresh Berries
An easy, light, portable and really delicious spring dessert that comes together in no time at all! It is perfect for Mother’s Day celebrations, as a part of your next brunch, or, for a sweet ending to any warm-weather entertaining outdoors.
People think cheesecakes are tricky to make, while others often find them too rich or too overly-sweet. This orange-scented cheesecake is different in so many ways: a lighter, crispy filo base replaces the traditional graham cracker crust, and, a delicious, aromatic and less-sweet filling takes the place of the usual heavy, sugar-laden cream cheese version of other recipes.
Easy Millefeuille with Almond Pastry Cream
This recipe is a spin on the classic millefeuille made with puff pastry–it is an easy dessert that combines fresh berries, crispy filo layers and a delicious almond pastry cream that holds everything together. Both the pastry almond cream and the filo squares can be made ahead of time and assembled just before serving.
Mini Kataifi Nests with Strawberry Cream and Pistachios
This is a special treat made with crispy, golden kataifi nests that are soaked in syrup and then topped with a delicious strawberry mascarpone cream and chopped pistachios. This is a fun recipe to put together!
This is an extremely flavorful dessert that combines the fresh flavor of sweet summer cherries with a rich almond layer and a hint of orange. The delicious, buttery, flaky pâté brisée crust is easy to roll in a rustic, free-form tart, which is almost fool-proof. This is a recipe that once you make once you can later use for other fruits as well, depending on your tastes, preferences and, of course, the season.
Mini Filo Tartlets with Lemon Curd and Fresh Berries
If you love lemon curd and are looking for a quick, no fuss dessert, these mini filo tartlets with lemon curd and fresh berries will not disappoint! Light, flavorful, and so pretty, they make for the perfect ending to any celebration. These little tarts, are small, portable, and definitely attract attention! This makes them perfect for buffets, where everybody can just pick up one or more.

The photography is outstanding as well as the recipes. While all are great desserts you know my favorite is the orange filo. I find the recipe for the cheesecake interesting and can’t wait to try it. Happy Mother’s Day to you and all your followers.
