Whether you are planning a small gathering this New Year’s Eve, or, just a quiet evening with your family, you can find some last minute inspiration for your get-together in this post I wrote last year about Mediterranean Small Bites! ??

The Greek tradition of New Year’s Cake (vasilopita)
At midnight on New Year’s Eve, as one year transitions to the next, families in Greece serve this simple, orange-infused cake to celebrate the arrival of the New Year. After pouring the cake batter into the pan, the baker closes his or her eyes, and secretly places a special coin into the unbaked cake. After the New Year’s Cake is baked and cooled, it is sliced–one slice for each person present, one slice for the house, and, one slice for Christ. The person who finds this coin in their slice will have the best of luck for the year ahead (and also gets to keep the special coin). Here is the recipe for the Greek New Year’s Cake (vasilopita)
